Last time we looked at what it means to participate with God. Just a reminder that He really wants us to be part of what He is doing currently in the earth. The simple question that I have asked so many times is simply this: Does God have the power to speak one word and heal everybody on the earth that is currently sick?
The obvious answer is yes. Then we need to ask ourselves why is He not doing it? The answer I believe is simply that even though God can do it, He chooses not to. Why would He make a choice like that? He bound Himself to a principle when He commanded us to go and do it. “You go and lay hands on the sick and heal them. Raise them from the dead, cleanse the lepers and give because you have freely received.”
Think about it again for a minute. Let’s meditate on this. For most people God is someone that is millions of miles away with no regard for us as humans. That is the lie of the enemy. The enemy wants us to think that God wants nothing to do with us. The truth is absolutely the opposite of that statement.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.
1Cor. 3:9 For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
We are obviously included in what God is doing. God wants to be part of your life in every minute detail but more than that HE wants you to be part of everything He does in minute detail. He is not just part of what you do sometimes, He is part of what you do all the time. Like someone said one time: “I don’t want only God, I want all of God.” God does not want only you, He wants all of you!
Jesus commands us to pray for more people to participate with God. “Ask for more laborers.” How do we invite others to join us on this adventure of working and participating with God? We must follow the example of Jesus. He showed them how to do it. Then He invited them to be part of it by doing it themselves. A powerless Gospel is not good news. God demonstrated His love to us by the sacrifice HE paid. A person that lives powerless has a hard time convincing others to join him. When we participate with God He shows up in power to demonstrate that what we are doing has His seal of approval. People will see and feel drawn to God.
In another passage we see Jesus walking with two men on their way to Emmaus. He explains to them from the law and the prophets all the scriptures pertaining to himself. They don’t recognize Him even as He walks with them. As He wants to go further they plead with Him to stay. Look at what happens next.
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
Luke 24:29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
Luke 24:30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Luke 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
As they sat down to eat Jesus took the bread and blessed it. Then He gave it to them and their eyes opened. What was the difference between Him talking to them about the scriptures and Him giving them bread to eat? I want to propose something to you. The difference was simply that in the breaking of the bread and the meal, they were invited to participate. In one they listened and pondered, the other they partook and experienced. That is exactly what I want you to see. When we participate with what God is doing He pulls us into an experience. Just listening is not experiencing. Doing is experiencing. Our churches have become places where people come and listen and God is never a reality in their lives. When we get off the church benches and get back out in the streets we will once again have a church that will be visible with power and life. What do you think is better? I am tired of believing and not experiencing. God invites us all to come and drink. He calls us all to come and participate. Do you really want to be on fire for God again? Step away from being comfortable and step into an active life of Christianity. I guarantee you that you will never be bored with God again and you will never be the same again. GO FOR IT!
